With no official team of Avengers in the MCU, it begs the question of who might eventually step up and lead a new roster in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and subsequently Secret Wars. There are certainly some intriguing options among the list of Avengers still standing in the wake of 2019's Avengers: Endgame. However, there hasn't been much forward momentum regarding the team's official reformation within the MCU itself.
Following the events of Avengers: Endgame and the end of the Infinity Saga, the MCU lost 3 of the original Avengers with Iron Man, Black Widow, and Captain America. All three were very influential in the leadership and direction of the Avengers in the MCU. To that end, the beginning of the new Multiverse Saga has been focused on more singular adventures with no official Avengers team to speak of, instead introducing new heroes and others continuing the legacies of fallen and/or retired heroes. Nevertheless, here are some strong candidates who could eventually lead a team of New Avengers beginning with Kang Dynasty.
7 Captain America
A prominent candidate to lead the New Avengers is Sam Wilson's Captain America. Having received the iconic shield in the final act of Endgame with Steve Rogers' retirement from the mantle, it took some time for Wilson to feel comfortable and confident in the new role as the MCU's next Captain America. This was covered in 2021's Falcon and the Winter Soldier with Sam making the conscious choice to wield the shield no matter the consequence, controversy, or personal challenge. Having the of Bucky Barnes' Winter Soldier, it would be very exciting to see a new Captain America leading the charge against Kang just as Rogers did against Thanos.
Interestingly, actor Anthony Mackie has expressed doubt about his version of Captain America leading the next iteration of Avengers. This largely comes from his belief that there are stronger and more powerful heroes who would arguably be more capable than Sam Wilson and his lack of superpowers. However, Wilson has been an Avenger since 2015's Age of Ultron and was allies with Rogers and Black Widow even before that. He's got a good amount of experience. Likewise, his partnership with the Winter Soldier would likely be beneficial with Bucky being set up to lead the Thunderbolts, the perfect bridge for an eventual team-up of teams in the MCU.
6 Wong
As the current Sorcerer Supreme in the MCU, Wong is definitely in the running to lead the New Avengers. After all, one of the core duties is to protect the world from mystical threats and dangers from other realities. While perhaps another Avenger might help lead their fellow heroes in the field, it's very easy to see Wong fulfilling a Nick Fury-type leadership role, recruiting and assembling a new roster of Avengers to face the threat of Kang and his variants in the Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. This is something that has already been seen to a degree with Wong having brought Shang-Chi into the Avengers fold.
5 Captain Marvel
One of the most powerful superheroes in the current MCU, Carol Danvers' Captain Marvel leading the Avengers makes a lot of sense. Not only would leading the new team serve as a great reason for her to have a stronger presence on Earth, but it's also worth noting that Carol has also become the newest leader of the Avengers in the current Marvel Comics. Furthermore, it stands to reason that she'd also recruit Monica Rambeau's Photon and Kamala Kahn's Ms. Marvel following their team-up in the MCU's film The Marvels.
4 Thor
Thor is one of the remaining original 6 Avengers alongside Bruce Banner's Hulk and Clint Barton's Hawkeye. As such, it does seem like he'd be in a unique position to lead to new version of the Avengers given his tenure. A new leadership role for Thor could potentially help course-correct some of the missteps made in the critically panned Thor: Love and Thunder as well.
Aside from Thor: Ragnarok, Thor's most popular appearances have been in Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame. In that regard, perhaps ing and even leading the next generation of heroes would be good for the Son of Odin. However, he is a new father as seen at the end of Love of Thunder which could take precedence over leading the New Avengers in Kang Dynasty and its probable continuation with Avengers: Secret Wars.
3 Doctor Strange
Doctor Strange is not the official Sorcerer Supreme in the MCU following the Blip. However, he's still a very powerful Master of the Mystic Arts. Having already visited other realities and experienced the devastation of multiversal incursions in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Stephen Strange could be a very effective leader against the threat of Kang and all his variants set to endanger the multiverse.
Currently, Doctor Strange is with a sorceress from the Dark Dimension named Clea who requested his help with more incursions in the multiverse. This is something that will become an even bigger danger the closer the MCU gets to Avengers: Secret Wars. Even if he doesn't end up leading the New Avengers, it stands to reason that Doctor Strange will still serve as a key authority on the multiverse going forward.
2 Spider-Man
Having experienced his own multiversal chaos alongside Doctor Strange in Spider-Man: No Way Home, Peter Parker would be an exciting candidate to lead the New Avengers as Iron Man's former protégé. Overall, Spider-Man as a leader in Avengers 5 makes a lot of sense. Understanding all too well the need for sacrifice to save the world, Spider-Man has also already interacted with his own variants, something that may be prevalent in Secret Wars with multiple variants of the same heroes coming together across realities to save the multiverse.
To that end, Spider-Man even helped lead his variants during their battle to stop all the villains coming from other realities. Peter Parker has certainly matured quite a bit since his debut in 2016's Captain America: Civil War. As such, Spider-Man's become a very effective hero who'd be more than capable of leading the next iteration of the Avengers by the time Kang Dynasty hits theaters.
1 Multiple Avengers Leaders?
Just like with the previous rosters of Avengers, it's also possible that the next iteration of the team could have more than one hero running things. After all, Nick Fury was the original assembler in the face of a new threat, Captain America helped lead in the field alongside Black Widow, while Iron Man helped come up with creative solutions to problems while also providing weapons, suits, and more infrastructure. To that end, perhaps something similar will be seen as the MCU continues to build toward Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars.
