While there are a lot of anime out there to watch, two of the most popular of all time are Attack on Titan and Naruto. Though they are widely compared as popular anime, the series themselves are actually pretty different, but both good in their unique ways.
Naruto, on the other hand, focuses on the adventures of the titular ninja who wishes to become the hokage of his village. While each show has a devoted fan base, deciding which one is better is no easy task.
Attack On Titan: Titan Battles
Without question, the best part of Attack on Titan are the fights against the Titans themselves. Watching normal-sized humans taking on these massive and powerful monstrosities is basically always epic.
What makes them interesting is that the Titans' strategies actually advance, despite their appearance as unthinking brutes. Plus, how the defenders of the human cities take their enemies on is unique, to say the least. But they do what they have to do.
Naruto: Fights, Fights And More Fights
Not to be outdone, Naruto is loaded with incredible action across the board. The core of the story is a young ninja named Naruto training and working to become the leader of his community, aka the hokage.
Just by the nature of the series, the main character is surrounded by a seemingly endless array of fellow ninjas at different stages of their careers and training. There are great action scenes in almost every episode.
Attack On Titan: Eren Yeager's Titan Power
The main character of the series is Eren Yeager. As a young boy, he witnessed his home being destroyed and his mother being killed by Titans. He swore revenge and ed the Survey Corps to get the gear and the opportunity to kill them.
What even he didn't know at the time would eventually exhibit the ability to actually transform into a Titan. In that form, Eren is referred to as the Attack Titan and he continues to fight on the side of the humans.
Naruto: The Powers
Not surprisingly, there are a lot more ninjas in the series than just Naruto himself. He has classmates, friends, mentors, and enemies that appear at different points in his journey, though some of them are along for the entire ride.
Many of these other ninjas have their own unique powersets and abilities. Because of that, the big battles that happen in virtually every episode can take on distinctly different flavors.
Attack On Titan: The Survey Corps
When a threat like the Titans is bearing down on humanity and seeks nothing more than complete annihilation, a group of warriors who are afraid of nothing is absolutely necessary. That's the Survey Corps.
They are the elite of the elite that the military has to offer. The specialized training combined with utter fearlessness and weaponry designed to kill Titans makes them one of the coolest groups of warriors in any anime.
Naruto: Incredible Story Mythology
The history that runs throughout Naruto and everything that comes after that is key to the evolving story. While the story might focus on Naruto's journey to becoming his village's hokage, the story started long before he was born.
There is an incredibly rich history and mythology built into this world. While fans don't necessarily get to see every last detail of it, the reality is that the mythology is there, guiding the story as it moves forward.
Attack On Titan: The Unique German/Japanese Setting
Once new viewers get over the visual of the monstrous Titans sacking cities and eating people, they inevitably start to notice the setting. Calling it unique would be a huge understatement.
The human cities seem to be heavily inspired by classic German designs but still show a lot of Japanese influence. It's quite an engaging setting.
Naruto: An Excellent Example Of Its Genre
Naruto embodies some of the best parts of its genre, the comedic adventure/fantasy anime -- and fans love going on the characters' many journeys with them.
Naruto not only leans into some of its tropes but it owns them, innovates them, and makes them special. There's an exceedingly classic vibe to this show that cannot be ignored and certainly should not be underestimated.
Attack On Titan: The Titans
Like any other story, heroes need great villains to play off of. Without a solid villain, the hero just ends up being quite boring. In Attack on Titan, those compelling villains are the Titans themselves.
They come in a variety of sizes and looks. But the one thing they have in common is they see humans on a food source. Their overwhelming power combined with being insanely difficult to kill makes them extremely good enemies.
Naruto: The Nine-Tails
Part of what makes Naruto such a special character in the series is the fact that he was bonded to a being called Kurama, or the Nine-Tails. One of several nine-tailed beasts, the powerful Kurama learned to hate humanity.
But being connected with Naruto led him to a place where the fox did a 180 and started using its power to protect people. It's an incredibly captivating character throughout the series.
