Assassin's Creed Shadows may be an effort to move the franchise forward but it sounds like it could also return to the past to spotlight a beloved character's return. Despite all the controversy surrounding the game, Ubisoft is going all in on Shadows after several recent releases like Star Wars Outlaws and Skull and Bones proved to be less successful than the company would have liked. How this plays out remains to be seen, but reuniting the community with one of the series' most popular heroes could go a long way.
Speaking to Game Rant, Ubisoft Quebec creative director Jonathan Dumont responded to a question regarding Kassandra's whereabouts by acknowledging that the Spartan mercenary is still active:
"Kassandra is very much alive during these times. She is somewhere around the globe, lurking in the shadows."
While it's not explicit confirmation that Kassandra will appear in Assassin's Creed Shadows, Dumont's choice of phrasing is certainly interesting. Since Assassin's Creed Odyssey, in which Kassandra starred, is set approximately 2,000 years before Shadows, it might be odd to see her return but it's happened before.
How Could Kassandra Still Be Alive For Shadows?
It's The Power Of The Gods
Assassin's Creed Odyssey fans who finished the massive game know that by the end of the story, Kassandra's father Pythagoras gives her the Staff of Hermes Trismegistus, a piece of Eden that grants her immortality. With the introduction of this treasure and the interconnected nature of the Assassin's Creed franchise, many assumed that Kassandra would return at some point. Those who continued playing the franchise know that this is exactly what happened.
Kassandra has actually already appeared in an Assassin's Creed game other than Odyssey. She features in the quest "A Fated Encounter" in Assassin's Creed Valhalla where she s Eivor in tracking down another Piece of Eden. It could be the case that Kassandra appears in Shadows to continue her artifact-hunting quest, but this remains to be seen.

I Just Realized If Assassin's Creed Shadows Fails, We Won't Get This Long-Requested Setting Next
Unfortunately, the success of Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed Shadows is directly tied to a highly requested setting that players want to see.
Assassin's Creed Is Pulling It All Together
It's All Connected!
Having Kassandra function as the uniting character that draws together the Assassin's Creed franchise sounds like a fun idea and I hope she does feature in Assassin's Creed Shadows. The series has long been held back by its convoluted story and messy timeline, so having a Ubisoft has planned, but I'm optimistic about Kassandra's return.
