If you are looking for some new gear in Assassin's Creed Shadows, places like the Chasuriyama Kofun can be a good place to look. They come with a reward chest for the protagonist that completes it, making it a good idea to clear these when you find them. Additionally, even though the regions might have a higher level, you can go through the Kofun without any trouble as they are usually tests of your puzzle-solving abilities and not combat-related.
Gear for the protagonists of Assassin's Creed Shadows is important, and you will want to keep that in mind as you raid castles, solve puzzles, and attempt to navigate the Kofun spread throughout the map. Not all of them hold legendary gear, but many of them do have significant upgrades to your kit. It will make it easier for you to take on bigger foes as you come upon them. However, you do still need to get to the end of the Kofun to get the gear first, which starts with finding it.
The Chasuriyama Kofun Location
Beginning The Dungeon
To get into this Kofun in Assassin's Creed Shadows, you will want to head to the Tamba region. It is located in the sub-region of Chasuriyama to the northwest. It's quite close to the end of the map, and you should see a ? in the region at the spot once you have unlocked a nearby viewpoint.

Assassin's Creed Shadows Was Originally Planned Without A Major Character
In a new interview, developer Ubisoft reveals that a major character was originally not planned for Assassin's Creed Shadows during development.
I would suggest the Yakami viewpoint in the fort to get to this one from. If you haven't unlocked it, you can climb up the rocks of the hill the fort is on to get into a gap in the wall where the tower with the viewpoint is located. From there, it's pretty easy to sneak up to the tower and get the viewpoint without alerting any enemies. That should give you the ? on the map, and it's a pretty easy gallop over to the Kofun.
You will not need any special weapons to complete this Kofun.
There are no special tricks to entering this Kofun, you just need to walk down and follow the hallway to the first main room and go from there. Of note, you will need the grappling hook, so you must use Naoe in this Kofun.
The Opening Rooms
The First Section Of The Kofun
The first section of the Kofun is fairly straightforward. Once you reach the first main room, you will want to walk directly across from the coffin and enter the gap in the wall. After that, there's another room that leads to a wooden platform that you will need to perform an Eagle Dive off of. You will land in a pool of water, and you just need to swim toward the light and exit the pool.
There are no treasure chests in the water, and, in fact, compared to the Megalithic Vault in Assassin's Creed Shadows, there are not many chests in this Kofun beyond the one at the end. I kept checking my observation skill, sure that I had missed something, but I never found anything else.
The Grappling Hook Section
Navigating To The Treasure Chest
From there, you will be doing a series of grappling hook maneuvers for the rest of the way. If you fall, you can swim back to the beginning of each room and climb back up to the first platform. In the first room, you will want to head directly across, jumping to the platform and then grappling to the end.
In the second room, you will jump across and then enter a darker age. You will have to go prone to get to the next room, but it is a straight shot. From there, grapple directly across the room, to the shortest platform. There is a series of white lines on the rock that you land next to, and you can use those to climb up and to the left. You will then want to drop down, and then you can do a second grapple to get to the end of the room.
It looks like there might be other ways out of this one, but there isn't. Just follow the room and jump onto the rope going across the next room. After you jump to the second rope, you will want to keep moving forward and into a long hallway.
The Latter Half Of The Kofun
Finishing The Trip
It is in this hallway that the only other treasure chest in the Kofun exists. Once you enter the hallway, you can look to your right and see a hole in the wall that you can crawl through by going prone. I received a Rare Kanabo, the Immortal Kanabo of Wounding, when I opened it.

Assassin's Creed Shadows: 10 Best Legendary Weapons For Yasuke
Of all the legendary weapons available in Assassin's Creed Shadows, these are hands down 10 of the best for Yasuke.
Re-enter the hallway and go to the end of it. Then, you can get to a gap in the wall that you will have to squeeze through. Once through, you will have to jump from island to island to get to the other side of the room. The tallest one you will have to climb up once you reach it. From there, stand on a wooden platform and swing on the grapple to get to the other side.
There will be another grapple swing, and then you can climb up where you will see a box with the Assassin's logo on a rock. If you have just randomly entered the Kofun, it won't do anything. You will instead have to find the side quest in Assassin's Creed Shadows called A Blade In The Dark to find out what it's about.
Final Steps & All Rewards
The Last Few Rooms & How To Get Out
From the box, you can head toward the lit candle on the other side of the room. There will be another gap in the wall to squeeze through. From there, simply climb up the wall on the far side of the room. You will enter another long hallway, and following it will bring you directly to the treasure chest at the end.
You will receive:
- Scarlet Fate (Legendary Tanto)
- Impactful Attacks (Legendary Engraving)
Additionally, for completing the Kofun, you will get a Knowledge Point and 2200 XP, which should give you a fairly good boost. However, you then still have to get out, which I found a little more vague than some of the other Kofun.
To get out, you will have to climb up to get onto a shelf that you will then jump down to a room you've seen before. However, then you have to figure out which way is the exit, as it doesn't put you quite as close to the exit as the others do. You will want to head to your right, and keep heading back until you finally see light. Then you will be officially done with the Chasuriyama Kofun in Assassin's Creed Shadows.
