Arnold Schwarzenegger and Wolverine in an absolute genius piece of fanart - one that pays homage to the film that brought these two superstars together in the first place.

In the 1988 film Twins, Arnold Schwarzenegger’s character, Julius, learns that he has a twin brother - Danny DeVito’s character, Vincent - so he sets off to find him. While the film itself has genuinely funny and heartfelt moments, the crux of the film hung on the visual comedy of someone as large and muscular as Arnold Schwarzenegger being the twin of someone who’s decidedly not large and muscular like Danny DeVito. What’s interesting, though, is that the dichotomy of Julius and Vincent’s appearances mirror those of Wolverine and Colossus perfectly, as the two X-Men allies have a similar size disparity, with Colossus standing at a whopping 6’6” (and roughly a foot taller in his metal form) while Wolverine’s canonically 5’3”. The artist behind this piece hilariously brought that odd yet accurate similarity to light (along with something of a challenge for filmmakers).

Artist Challenges Filmmakers to Cast Arnold Schwarzenegger & Danny DeVito as Colossus & Wolverine

In a Tweet by Twitter Bing Madsen, the artist posted a drawn and colored image depicting the likenesses of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito as Colossus and Wolverine, respectively. The two are doing a similar pose as the one featured on the cover and poster image of Twins, with Danny DeVito’s character leaning on Arnold Schwarzenegger’s while the two are smiling at the ‘camera’. The artwork is fun and stylish, with an accuracy to the aesthetic of the X-Men characters as well as the likenesses of the actors ‘portraying’ them. However, there’s something else included in this post: a challenge. The artist’s written text accompanying the image reads, “The Wolverine and Colossus We deserve, You Cowards!!! Put Them in the multiverse!!!”.

The idea of Arnold Schwarzenegger playing Colossus opposite Danny DeVito’s Wolverine is something that could not only absolutely work in a future multiverse film, but it’s actually something fans have been calling for for years (at least, half of what they’ve been calling for). Since Marvel Studios will assuredly be recasting Wolverine, many fans have looked to Danny DeVito to fill that particular void given the comic accuracy of his height and build. Sure, Danny DeVito might not be as muscular as Wolverine, but some Marvel-funded weights training can fix that, which is perfect given his inherently comic-accurate stature. While the Danny DeVito Wolverine fancast is more or less an ironic joke, it actually makes a lot of sense if one stops to really think about it - especially if it’s just as a cameo in a multiverse movie - with the addition of Arnold Schwarzenegger as Colossus being absolutely perfect for more obvious reasons. What’s interesting, though, is that this apparent trend of the movie Twins inspiring Marvel Comics characters isn’t unique to this fanart, as one comic creator itted that another X-Men ‘hero’ was inspired by the 1988 comedy.

Twins Actually Inspired the Creation of ANOTHER X-Men ‘Hero’

Deadpool and Danny DeVito as 'Twins'.

In an interview with Complex, Rob Liefeld said that Danny DeVito’s role in Twins directly inspired the creation of Deadpool. Liefeld’s statement reads as follows:

I stole that crap straight out of Twins. When they go to Danny DeVito, ‘How are they twins?’ he goes, ‘All the purity and strength went into Julius. All the crap that was left over went into what you see in the mirror every morning.’ That’s Wade Wilson.

So, while fans have been fancasting Danny DeVito as Wolverine for years, the actor has secretly been the inspiration behind the antithesis of Wolverine all this time. Danny DeVito’s role in Twins shockingly inspired Deadpool just as it inspired this absolutely jaw-dropping piece of fanart, which calls on the more recent fancast of Danny DeVito as Wolverine, with the added perfection of Arnold Schwarzenegger as Colossus to bring the Twins homage full circle.
