Warning: SPOILERS for Army of the Dead.
The opening scene of Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice callback: Sgt. Kelly, played by Michael Cassidy, dies just as Jimmy Olsen, who was also played by Cassidy, was killed at the start of BvS. It's unlikely this is a coincidence; rather, Zack Snyder must be cleverly winking at BvS by casting Cassidy once again, only to bump him off at the beginning of his epic zombie heist movie.
Jimmy Olsen's role in Batman v Superman was controversial; in the theatrical cut, Michael Cassidy played an unidentified CIA agent who posed as a Daily Planet photographer who accompanied Lois Lane (Amy Adams) to Nairomi, Africa, to interview warlord General Amajagh (Sammi Rotibi). Anatoli Knyazev (Callan Mulvey) uncovered Olsen's identity as a spy and the general had Jimmy executed. However, during Zack Snyder's promotion of BvS, the director revealed the murdered CIA agent was the classic Superman character, Jimmy Olsen. Jimmy's identity was confirmed in the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Ultimate Edition, which had an extended version of the Nairomi sequence where Jimmy Olsen identified himself by name to Lois. Superman (Henry Cavill), of course, arrived in time to save Lois but the Man of Steel was too late to prevent the death of Jimmy Olsen, whom he doesn't even know in the DC Extended Universe.
In Indiana Jones movies). However, a newlywed couple crashed their car into the transport truck, annihilating both vehicles and setting Zeus loose. The killer zombie then makes mincemeat out of the soldiers while Sgt. Kelly calls headquarters for instructions.
While Sgt. Kelly and his partner try to escape the carnage on foot and don't get far, they assume they're a sufficient distance from the monster. Of course, they were mistaken and Zeus found them. The zombie quickly kills both soldiers, but Sgt. Kelly awakens first, having turned into a zombie. The two soldiers then rise and follow their new master, Zeus, as he sets his sights on the glittering lights of the unsuspecting Las Vegas. Sgt. Kelly isn't seen again in Army of the Dead so it's possible he perished during the wars fought against the zombies as Las Vegas was overrun and eventually sealed off from the rest of the country. It's also not known if the zombified Sgt. Kelly was merely a "shambler" zombie or if he became one of Zeus' evolved undead warriors.
Michael Cassidy previously appeared in Zack Snyder films, and it will be fun to see if the director casts Michael Cassidy in similar roles to kick off future films.
