Warning: This article contains SPOILERS for Invincible season 3, episodes 1-3 and the Invincible comics. The brutal nature of Invincible season 2's ending hinting at the death of Angstrom Levy, the show's two-part season proved to be a rough one for villains, with Thula, Vidor, and the Lizard League also losing their lives. Several heroes suffered life-threatening injuries as well, but luckily Dupli-Kate, Shrinking Rae, and Rex Splode survived their encounters with the Lizard League. Nonetheless, it was certainly an action-packed eight episodes, and season 3 has seemingly continued the show's bloody nature.

Just three episodes in, the Mauler Twins appeared to suffer a devastating end to their story at the hands of Kid Omni-Man, and their extreme wounds seem nearly impossible to recover from. Given Invincible season 3 is set to introduce exciting new characters like Multi-Paul and Powerplex, it makes it even more likely that the Maulers are gone for good after episode 3. However, the series has had plenty of fake-out deaths previously, even more so than the comics, and with the source material also offering insight into the villainous duo's future, their journey may not be over just yet.

According To Invincible's Comics, The Mauler Twins Survive

A Remnant Of The Maulers Remains Alive In The Comics After The Kid Omni-Man Fight

After missing a large part of season 2, the Mauler Twins returned to their evil schemes in season 3 and attempted to kill some of Earth's greatest heroes, but things didn't go to plan as Kid Omni-Man showed up and brutally murdered them. The young hero broke one of the twins' jaws before punching a hole through the other, causing the surviving Mauler to surrender. Unfortunately, Oliver proceeded to execute him, suggesting that, for the first time in the series, both twins were dead. Surprisingly though, the comic books indicate this might not actually be the end for the villains.

While both of season 3's Mauler Twins appear to be gone, a clone is supposedly still alive somewhere in Kuwait.

Throughout the first two seasons, several Maulers have been killed off, but one has always survived, allowing them to continue cloning themselves. This has been a recurring theme, and while both of season 3's Mauler Twins appear to be gone, a clone is supposedly still alive somewhere in Kuwait. It makes sense that neither character will recover from Kid Omni-Man's brutal attack, but knowing there is a remnant of them still alive in the world is a major shock, and gives the fan favorites a real chance of returning in the future.

Invincible: 14 Comic Scenes Too Dark For The Show

Amazon's Invincible series has already featured some dark moments on the screen but some from the comics might be too much for it.

Considering Invincible season 2 made several changes from the comics, the TV show may opt to deviate from the source material and end the Maulers' story here. However, considering the characters have proven to be popular among viewers and still have plenty to offer, their return is a lot more possible than their most recent scene suggests.

What The Mauler Twins' Deaths Mean For Invincible & Oliver

Invincible Will Lose Some Of Its Comic Relief While Their Deaths Could Impact Oliver's Mental State

Even if the Maulers return, Oliver believes he has killed them, and he doesn't seem particularly remorseful. Rather than feeling bad about taking another person's life, Oliver was pleased he stopped the bad guys for good, something that could have a huge impact on the series. His merciless attitude towards murder mimics that of his father, suggesting he could end up following in his footsteps. In contrast, if Mark and Debbie are able to get through to him, Oliver may eventually regret his actions, which could take a toll on him mentally, making him rethink his role as a hero.

New episodes of Invincible season 3 are available every Thursday on Prime Video.

Additionally, the Maulers' deaths could also impact the protagonist himself, as his brother's bloodlust is undoubtedly a major concern. With Cecil, the Viltrumites, and the potential return of Angstrom Levy to worry about, Oliver's troubling behavior could continue challenging Mark's resilience, potentially putting him down a dark path. Even the overall tone will be impacted by the loss of the Mauler Twins, as their departures leave the show without some major comic relief. Therefore, their apparent deaths will have a significant influence on Invincible and its characters, making the prospect of their return all the more tantalizing.
