While the Apple Watch is quite famous among iOS s, the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 is among the best smartwatches for Android s. The South Korean tech giant Samsung revealed the Galaxy Watch 5 at the Galaxy Unpacked event held in Aug. 2022, alongside the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro. While the wearable offers a better battery life than its predecessor, it is also good at tracking several health-related metrics.

Display, Processor & Other Features
The Apple Watch Series 8 comes in two sizes: one with a 41mm case (352 x 430 pixels) and the other with a 45mm case (296 x 484 pixels). The Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 also comes in two sizes: the 40mm variant, which has a 1.2-inch screen (396 x 396 pixels), and the 44mm variant, which has a 1.4-inch screen (450 x 450). Both the smartwatches have a peak brightness of 1000 nits and an always-on display. Unfortunately, Apple and Samsung do not provide a significant performance upgrade on their latest wearables. The Apple Watch Series 8 comes with the S8 chip, which has the same processor as the S7, combined with 1GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. Similarly, the Galaxy Watch 5 runs on an Exynos W920 dual-core processor with 1.5GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, a configuration used for the Galaxy Watch 4.
The Apple Watch Series 8 and the Galaxy Watch 5 run on the latest operating systems, i.e., watchOS 9 and WearOS. Regarding health-monitoring features, the wearables can measure heart rate, blood oxygen levels, ECG, body temperature, sleep, menstrual cycle and emergency SOS. However, Samsung takes it further with blood pressure tracking and an advanced Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA) sensor that estimates s' body fat percentage, amount of skeletal muscle and BMI. On the other hand, the Apple Watch Series 8 has an accelerometer that can measure up to 256g of force, enabling features like Fall Detection and Crash Detection. Other than that, both the smartwatches can connect with Wi-Fi, feature NFC, GPS and LTE (optional).
The massive difference in battery life sets the Apple Watch 8 and the Galaxy Watch 5 apart. While the $399 Galaxy Watch 5 is rated to last up to 50 hours on a single charge. Even with the new Low Power Mode, the Apple Watch Series 8 can offer up to 36 hours, which is still less than the $279.99 Galaxy Watch. The LTE models of the Apple Watch and the Galaxy Watch are available for $499 and $329, respectively. Since both the smartwatches are made for entirely different audiences, there is no clear winner between the two. The Apple Watch Series 8 works with iPhones, and the Galaxy Watch 5 works with Android devices. However, both devices seem to be at par with each other regarding design and specifications. While the Apple Watch Series 8 has the new Crash Detection and women's cycle tracking feature, the Galaxy Watch 5 provides a better battery life.
