The the rugged Watch Ultra with dual-frequency GPS and a claimed battery life of up to 36 hours.

Unfortunately, for people interested in the Watch SE 2, it misses out on the always-on display despite having an OLED screen. The always-on display was one of the marquee features of the Apple Watch Series 5, and it has since been a part of all subsequent Apple Watch models. Before the Watch SE 2, the only exception to that rule was the first-generation Apple Watch SE, which did not have the much-wanted feature, either.

Though it may not have the Always-On feature seen in the Series 8, the Apple Watch SE’s display otherwise stacks up well against the version. Apple Watch SE features a Retina LTPO OLED display just like the Series 8, boasting brightness of up to 1000 nits. The 44mm variant has a resolution of 368 by 448 pixels, while the smaller, 40mm SE’s resolution is 324 by 394 pixels. The display itself is made of Apple’s Ion-X strengthened glass, which isn’t quite as scratch-resistant as the Sapphire crystal display on more expensive models, but is tough against impacts.

While the lack of an always-on display is a big drawback, buyers willing to look past this missing feature will get a lot of bang for their buck with the Watch SE 2. It has many of the same features as the Watch Series 8, including crash detection and international roaming. It is also powered by the S8 SiP dual-core processor like the Watch Series 8 and the Watch Ultra, meaning it would offer the same performance and power efficiency as the more expensive models.

Some of the other notable features of the Watch SE include an optical heart rate sensor, fall detection, emergency SOS, sleep tracking, and water resistance up to 50 meters. With watchOS 9, Watch SE 2 s will also get a new com app in addition to the various fitness and wellness features. The Apple Watch SE 2 is available in Midnight, Starlight and Silver finishes and is priced starting at $249 for the 40mm GPS model. The top-end 44mm cellular Apple Watch SE 2 model costs $329.
