Apex Legends is constantly delivering new and engaging content and mechanics its players. From its surprise launch, onward, Apex has been more than generous with updates. Season 6 continues this wonderful trend by handing players new characters, weapons, and even new mechanics. Players have been eager to see what new additions are in store.
Season 6 has introduced players to a brand new crafting system. No such mechanic has been a part of the game so far, so this is a big change. The basic reasoning for the change is to give casual and advanced players a better chance of getting the gear that they feel the most comfortable with. This is designed to make the game more exciting overall. Here's how to use the crafting mechanics in Apex Legends.
Replicators in Apex Legends
The core of the crafting mechanic is the Replicator. Replicators are machines set up sporadically around the map that allows players to build special weapons and items. Replicators have a certain number of items that are available at a time. This means that players shouldn't expect to always be able to craft exactly what they want every time. Certain special weapons will only be available when they are in the rotation that day. Which items are available for that day can be found in the menu or in the opening lobby.
Replicator stations will be helpful for players who need to get certain items that are harder to find. These stations also come equipped with ammo and medkits that players can pick up, similar to the regular loot chests that are scattered around the map. This addition will hopefully make life easier for players who are less aggressive with their play style.
Materials in Apex Legends
Along with the Replicator comes a new form of loot called Materials. Materials are basically the currency that is needed to use the Replicator. Players can travel around the map while they fight, picking up materials. Materials can't be held onto outside of matches and can not be purchased in the in-game store. Materials can only be collected during matches and take up a different set of inventory slots than the rest of the loot players collect.
One perk of the Materials system is that all players on a team will get the same amount of materials from a single collection, but when they are spent, only the player spending them loses them. This allows players to not have to fight over who has more materials or who has been spending the most on specific items. Unlike other forms of loot, Materials are not left behind when a player dies. If they are respawned back into the game, they will regain their last Material count. This won't carry over into future matches though.
Crafting Tips and Tricks in Apex Legends
One of the best strategies for crafting when starting a new game is to treat Material drops like first weapons. They are vitally important for the longevity of the game. Players should grab their first two weapons and collect ammo, then immediately begin looking for Materials to stockpile. These will come in handy for players who have specific weapons in mind that can be crafted. The materials are also helpful for the later parts of the round. Players who survive until the end may want to save their materials to craft something useful in the late game. This could be the difference between success or failure if players are able to plan ahead and execute properly.
Apex Legends is available on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
