The ending of Ant-Man and the Wasp made its appearance in another Marvel property long before the sequel’s release. The Ant-Man follow-up saw Scott Lang teaming up with Hope van Dyne to save her mother, Janet van Dyne, from being trapped in another dimension — the Quantum Realm. After evading a house arrest, thwarting a black market dealer, and fighting an intangible antagonist, Scott and Hope gave Hank Pym an opportunity to enter the Quantum Realm and free his wife. The team succeeded in rescuing a loved one trapped in a realm outside of time and space, much like two heroes had done four years prior.

Before Ant-Man and the Wasp, a movie based on the Marvel property Big Hero 6 was released by Disney. In the animated feature, after the tragically avoidable ing of Tadashi Hamada, his group of friends learned how to use their scientific prowess to catch the culprit responsible. Led by Tadashi’s younger brother, Hiro, and the healthcare companion Baymax, they defeated Tadashi’s killer, Yokai. However, Yokai managed to repair an unstable portal device before his capture. Baymax detected a sign of life within this portal, prompting him and Hiro to venture into the dangerous void. These two were the first Marvel movie characters to rescue someone trapped in a different dimension.

How Ant-Man 2's Ending Borrows From Big Hero Six

Hank and Janet in the Quantum Realm in Ant-Man and the Wasp

The antagonists of both Ant-Man and the Wasp and the underrated Big Hero 6 suffered a great loss as a result of science, setting them on a path toward villainy. When they were defeated, families once realms apart were finally reunited. In Big Hero 6, Robert Callaghan witnessed his daughter become trapped in a space between portals after a test went awry. Consumed by revenge against the man in charge of this experiment, Robert slowly transformed into the dangerous villain Yokai. While Yokai’s vengeance failed to come to fruition, he was able to reconnect with his daughter thanks to Hiro and Baymax.

Ant-Man and the Wasp switched roles, opting instead to have Ghost witness the death of both her parents during a botched Quantum Tunnel experiment. Ghost was engulfed in quantum energy due to this mishap, causing her to lose her physical presence and experience immense pain. To survive, she extracted Janet van Dyne’s quantum energy without care for the woman's life. Ant-Man and the Wasp ultimately defeated Ghost, allowing Janet to officially re her family unit. Both Janet and Abigail were saved by heroes and were now free to spend long-awaited time with their loved ones.

Could Big Hero Six Be Part Of The MCU?

Marvel’s ever-expanding plans regarding its cinematic universe certainly opened up the franchise to endless possibilities. Big Hero 6 could be one of them. While the property’s location in the illuminated city of San Fransokyo all but confirmed the teenage heroes wouldn’t exist on Earth-616, they could be a part of the larger multiverse. MCU Phase 4 proved that the franchise is ready to explore the multiverse, and Big Hero 6 would be an excellent fit, especially since much of the Disney animated feature's plot already mirrors the ending of Marvel's Ant-Man and the Wasp.
