While many players find ways to incorporate references to their favorite TV shows and movies on their Animal Crossing islands, video game designs and builds seem to be the most popular type of pop culture reference present in the community so far. Video game designs lend themselves well to adaptations and recreations, providing players with plenty of resources such as maps and models that can make their intricate designs even more accurate. Players even find ways to incorporate Easter eggs and references to the mechanics of other games into their Animal Crossing builds, making their recreations not just detailed, but interactive as well. Video game design builds can end up being some of the most creative in the game for this reason, with players pulling out all the stops to make their islands as authentic as possible.
By and large, The Legend of Zelda-themed Animal Crossing builds seem to be a fan favorite, and players have recreated a ton of areas from Breath of the Wild, Ocarina of Time, A Link to the Past, and more of the series’ popular installments. However, with Animal Crossing players’ seemingly limitless creativity and the freedom that the game grants players to design whatever they want, players have designed stunning homages to plenty of other games and franchises, such as The Witcher, Among Us, and others. These designs have not only been inspired by some fantastic games, but have inspired other players to create video game references of their own.
Animal Crossing Hyrule Castle Town Captures Ocarina's Charm
The Legend of Zelda franchise in Animal Crossing, and one of their recent projects features an impressive recreation of Hyrule Castle Town from Ocarina of Time. From the central fountain to the castle itself, the layout of this idyllic town is stunningly accurate to the source material and took over a year to complete. The design incorporates plenty of intricate custom designs and makes great use of the new Castle Tower and Castle Wall items that were added to Animal Crossing in the free 2.0 update. Their Reddit post even features birds-eye camera angles that mimic Ocarina of Time, sending fans of the classic 3D Zelda back to Hyrule with a wave of nostalgia.
Among Us Animal Crossing Build Features Working Vents For Imposters
The classic Skeld map from Among Us has been recreated in Animal Crossing by Reddit sillyruckus, who used the terraforming tools to turn their entire island into an accurate rendition of the ship’s layout. Players will instantly recognize areas like Storage, Navigation, and Medbay, and the island even has cutouts customized to look like the iconic bean-shaped crewmates. Perhaps the most inventive thing about this design, however, is the use of the Super Mario Bros. Pipes as vents, allowing players to actually travel from room to room just like the Imposter would in a game of Among Us. The build itself is impressive on its own, but the fact that players could actually recreate a round of Among Us on the island makes this design stand out even more.
Animal Crossing Opens A Fazbear's Pizza Location In FNAF Design
A new Fazbear’s location has opened up, but instead of being a terrifying restaurant plagued with violent animatronics, it’s a delightfully scary horror-themed Animal Crossing recreation of Five Nights at Freddy’s pizzeria designed by Reddit arterialrainbow. The Animal Crossing Happy Home Paradise DLC gave players the chance to design five different facilities on the archipelago, one of which is a restaurant, and arterialrainbow took the opportunity to create an incredible FNAF-themed build.
The design features plenty of FNAF references and even includes a surveillance room that makes use of the new accent walls added in Animal Crossing 2.0 to recreate the famous setting of the survival horror series. In addition, several villagers have been recruited to stand in for the terrifying animatronics, but thankfully there are no jump scares to be found in this clever recreation. Instead, they’ve been given custom outfits to match their FNAF counterparts, such as Chica’s “Let’s Eat!!!” bib that Twiggy wears and the adorable silk hat on Grizzly to mimic Freddy himself.

Spooky Luigi's Mansion Features Animal Crossing's Wisp As King Boo
By recruiting Wisp to act as a stand-in for King Boo, Reddit Animal Crossing along with other Mario items, including the Luigi outfit acnhsulky’s character wears in their post. In addition to this clever representation of King Boo, there are a number of other references to the Luigi’s Mansion series incorporated into the design, including the vacuum referencing the Poltergust 3000 and the rocking horse from one of the first game’s boss battles. Between the brick pillars used for the fireplace and the decrepit look of the walls, this Animal Crossing: New Horizons version of Luigi’s mansion looks like it could be the setting for another installment in the series.
