New Horizons' latest update has brought many of Animal Crossings' popular characters back to the series. While fans are excited to see Leif, Cyrus, and Reese, making a return, they're also thrilled to have Redd show back up.

This crazy fox is best known for selling players' artwork, but be careful; Redd has a sneaky side and is commonly carrying counterfeits.

It's time to head to the island and ire a few paintings; Here is everything to know about Redd in New Horizons.

He Will Show Up After Blathers Suggests Expanding The Museum

Redd meets a player in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

If you've updated New Horizons to version 1.2.0 or later and are still waiting on Redd to arrive, you might need to complete a few more tasks on your island.

First, you'll need to build a museum. After you have one, you'll need to get your donation total up to 60. Any bugs, fish, or fossils you donate will count toward the number.

The next day, Blathers will tell you that he is taking art donations. After that, Redd will decide to lurk around your town...

The First Piece Of Art From Red Is Real

Isabelle will report that a suspicious character has been spotted on your island. That's how you know that Redd is on the premise.

When you first talk to the fox, he'll try to sell you a random painting for the low price of 498,000 Bells. You'll decline, and he'll offer it to you for a discounted 4,980 Bells. Say yes because this one is genuine. You won't have to deal with counterfeit paintings until later.

Donate the painting you get to Blathers right away, and he'll excitedly decide to expand.

The next day, the museum will be under construction. However, the day after that, it will reopen with an updated front and an art exhibit on the second floor. You'll be able to fill it up with more art from Redd over time.

Redd's Art Is Based On Real Painting And Sculptures

Whether you're an avid painting irer or a casual sculpture fan, you'll be glad to know that all of Redd's genuine items are based on actual pieces of art.

Over time, Redd will sell you over 40 famous paintings and statues based on works including The Starry Night by Vincent Van Goh, The Birth of Venus by Sandro Botticelli, and Venus de Milo by Alexandros of Antioch. Once a piece of art has been donated to the museum, players can read the tags by them, which offer further insight.

Redd Will Dock His Boat At The Back Of The Island

Be on the lookout for Redd because you never know when he'll show up next.

While you'll once again find Redd wandering your town on his next visit, he won't sell you art on the spot. Instead, he'll invite you to his ship, Jolly Redd's Treasure Trawler, which is docked near the back of your island.

In order to access the boat, you'll probably need to use your Ladder or terraform the area via the Island Designer.

You Can Figure Out What Art Is Fake And Real

The real and fake version of The Blue Boy hanging together in Redd's Trawler in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Once inside Redd's ship, you'll find four pieces of art. While you might be inclined to sweep up the first piece you see, you'll soon discover that many of Redd's pieces are fake. Thankfully, if you're not an art history major, you won't have to blindly guess which paintings and statues are counterfeits.

The easiest way to differentiate between a fake painting and a real one is by checking out the internet. Many players have already shared screenshots of what genuine paintings look like versus their knock-off counterparts. The other way to figure out whether a piece is legit is by comparing it to the real-life piece of artwork it is based on.

Fake Art Has No Use

While the hope is that you never buy a fake painting, it might happen. So what can you do with it? Unfortunately, not much.

Timmy and Tommy refuse to buy fake paintings, so you can't get your bells back. You also aren't allowed to donate it to the museum.

Your options? Put it up in your own house or dispose of it using the recycling bin or a trash can.

There Is More Than One Fake Kind Of Art

As the internet has quickly discovered, many paintings have more than one fake rendition.

Sure, there are some pieces of art like Warm Painting (based on The Clothed Maja by Francisco de Goya) that are always genuine. However, there are certain works like Wistful Painting (based on Girl with a Pearl Earring by Johannes Vermeer) with multiple counterfeits. While sometimes the girl in this painting will have star earrings instead of pearl ones, other times her eyes will be closed. Look closely!

Redd Also Sells Furniture

In addition to carrying four paintings at a time, Redd will also sell two pieces of furniture. Thankfully, you're allowed to buy both of these pieces at once.

While some pieces of furniture are common and easy to buy at Nooks, others are special and can only be spotted on the Treasure Trawler. Some customizations are Redd-specific.

Just because Redd limits players to one piece of art a day doesn't mean you can't clear out his gallery.

You can obtain every item Redd is selling during a single visit by heading back to the Treasure Trawler with other players on your Switch. If you'd rather not go to the trouble of saving, logging in as a new player, collecting the art, and donating it to the museum, you can also just have one of your friends visit.

Freinds from other islands can purchase from Redd whenever he's docked on your shore.
