When compared to previous entries in the series, Animal Crossing: New Horizons offers its players the most freedom in of customization. It certainly pushed the boundaries of the franchise with its terraforming and outdoor furniture, but it also cut back some of the features that fans came to love from older titles. Popular characters like Kapp'n are nowhere to be found, but Brewster and his coffee shop are some of the most popular exclusions from New Horizons. Luckily, the game has been regularly updated so it's possible that Brewster might finally make an appearance eventually.
Despite its explosive sales, New Horizons has been criticized for the actual content found within the game. Players found they have thousands of ways to customize their islands to their heart's content, but that the gameplay itself can be rather repetitive. Nook's store can't be upgraded as much as it could previously, there are fewer shops and merchants to find, and there's frequently not much to do besides decorating the island. Nintendo's updates have helped to amend this issue, but not nearly as much as fans were likely hoping.
It is true that popular features cut from the base game ended up returning via updates, many of them were simply holiday-themed experiences in ACNH that could only be experienced during a tiny portion of the year. Among the many requests from fans were hopes of the return of a certain coffee shop. Brewster made his first appearance in Animal Crossing: Wild World on the Nintendo DS, in which his coffee shop could be found in the Museum's basement. He's since become a staple in the Animal Crossing universe, which is why it's strange he has yet to show up in New Horizons.
How Brewster Could Work In Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Nintendo probably won't just add Brewster into the game without offering some sort of functionality. His store has given players the option to relax with a cup of coffee, which can help players develop a relationship with him much as Sable does at the Able Sisters store. More importantly, he can even give players a part-time job in New Leaf, which would work perfectly in New Horizons. One of the biggest complaints players have with their villagers is that they quickly run out of things to say and get boring because of this. Villagers would get new lines if players could serve them coffee so it could be a great opportunity to amend this issue.
This could also be a potential quality of life change for villager hunting. Currently, players need to spend Nook Tickets in New Horizons to travel to random islands in hopes of finding a new villager out there. However, this process could be streamlined if players could also have villagers that don't already live on their island come to Brewster's shop. Perhaps it could be located at the airport, and players could try to convince their customers to move to their island by memorizing their orders or engaging with them according to their personality.
It could make for a far more interesting villager hunting experience than simply rolling the dice with each Nook Ticket. Of course, it's possible that Brewster might never find his way in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, but he has the potential to add some genuine improvements to the experience. Given his popularity, he'll hopefully be added to the game soon.
