According to new data, Andor Is The Adult Star Wars You Wish George Lucas Made

Although Disney has found overall success with its recent Star Wars shows, a new study from Parrot Analytics, as shared by the firm's Industry Strategist Brandon Katz on Twitter, shows that Andor's audience demand remains relatively low. Using a proprietary system to calculate audience demand that takes into social media posts, blogs, search traffic, and more, the study reveals that Andor ranks significantly below all other Star Wars shows. The Mandalorian season 1 saw the highest peaks of demand overall.

Why Andor Is Struggling Compared To Other Star Wars Shows

Andor Episode 6 The Eye Cassian

Despite a very strong response from critics, Andor's failure to drum up demand could be due to several key factors. First and foremost, Andor is centered around a Rogue One character, who, while interesting, never really became as memorable as other characters from the Star Wars universe. The Book of Boba Fett, for example, chronicles the adventures of one of the most fearsome bounty hunters in the entire Star Wars franchise, who was introduced back in Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back in 1980.

Andor's first few episodes are also slower-paced than other Star Wars fare, and the show takes its time setting up the character of Cassian Andor, his backstory, and a series of complex character dynamics. While Gilroy's deliberate (and mostly Easter-egg-free) storytelling has arguably made Andor one of the best Star Wars shows, the approach doesn't necessarily lend itself well to high-energy audience engagement across social media and other platforms. With six episodes still to go in season 1 and season 2 already on the way, there's still a chance that strong word-of-mouth can push Andor's audience demand to higher levels in the coming weeks.
