Andor season 2 cast. The season features multiple references to Jyn's father, Galen Erso (Mads Mikkelsen), and to the planet Eadu where he is stationed, but Jyn does not make an appearance and is never referenced.
While speaking with Backstory Magazine, Gilroy shares that when crafting season 2, he considered everything, including the possibility of Jyn appearing. He praises Jones as an actor and individual, emphasizing that he would have loved to work with her again, and that he was aware of the many fans who wanted to see her return. However, Jyn does not appear because Gilroy did not see a feasible or meaningful way to bring her into the story. Check out his comments below:
When I was building season 2 after season 1, I was looking at everything. Felicity is just a fantastic actor and a really great person, and I know how much love there is for her online and how many people were begging for that to happen. If I could have thought of a way that didn't tip everything upside down, I don't think Lucasfilm would have had a problem. But I could never...once you start it, what do you do with it? You got to go all the way. Is she some connection to Saw, and then you get into that, but then you go back, and what does he say in Rogue One? It just never pulled together.
What This Means For Andor
Existing Canon Made A Jyn Appearance Challenging
Given his work on Rogue One, Gilroy is, unsurprisingly, a fan of Jyn, but he was never going to bring her into Andor unless it made sense for the story. With Saw Gerrera (Forest Whitaker) and Jyn sharing a great deal of history together, and Saw being a key character in Andor, it makes sense that Gilroy initially looked for a potential avenue there. As indicated in his comments, though, this would not have worked based on the comments that Jyn and Saw make in Rogue One, specifically that they have not seen each other since she was 16.

Star Wars: Forest Whitaker's Saw Gerrera Character & Clone Wars Origin Explained
Forest Whitaker's Saw Gerrera has had a fascinating history in the Star Wars canon, beginning with the Clone Wars and ending just before A New Hope.
The Andor & Rogue One timeline has also previously established that Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) and Jyn had not met before Rogue One and that Jyn steered clear of the Rebel Alliance before they came for her on Wobani. The Empire also did not know of her survival. With Jyn being unable to interact with Saw, Cassian, the Rebel Alliance, and with the Empire being unaware of who she really was, there were limited options for her to be incorporated into Andor. Also, much of her story during Andor has already been told in the novel Rebel Rising by Beth Revis.
Our Take On Tony Gilroy's Comments
The Best Decision Was Made
As much as I enjoyed Jyn's character in Rogue One, I am glad she was not in Andor season 2's finale or the earlier episodes. Beyond the complications of what had already been established in the canon timeline, there were already plenty of other storylines and character arcs that needed to be resolved in season 2. Andor was never a show that brought in familiar characters just for the sake of it, as everything was done with significant narrative purpose, and that remained true until the very end of the show.
