Max recently shared a new video promoting their programming. Check it out below:
While the promo largely included shows that are set for 2024, one section teased those with 2025 dates, including And Just Like That season 3. This date means that viewers are in for another long hiatus, as season 2 concluded on August 24, making the gap between seasons a minimum of another 16 months.
The Long Hiatus Could Be Good For And Just Like That Season 3
It is probable that a good portion of the hiatus after And Just Like That season 2 is due to the dual Hollywood strikes. Many shows and movies were significantly delayed while writers and then actors went on strike for fair pay in mid-2023. Indeed, the show's official season 3 renewal came at a time when both the Writers Guild of America and the Screen Actors Guild were on strike, a period of overlap that encomed all of August.
The WGA strike lasted for 148 days between May 2 and September 27, while the SAG-AFTRA strike lasted for 118 days between July 14 and November 9.
However, the delays in writing and production could potentially have a beneficial effect on season 3. The And Just Like That season 2 ending saw Carrie setting off on what could be a five-year wait for Aidan to return to her after deciding to prioritize raising his children over their relationship. With such a long hiatus, season 3 may see fit to either jump to the end of that waiting period or at least far enough into it that Carrie has had a chance to experience it and make a decision about whether it seems worth her while.
Even if the show doesn't see fit to truncate that storyline, the hiatus will help And Just Like That stay consistent with its internal timeline. Though the previous seasons aired over the course of a few months, they both included huge time jumps that saw their timelines extend far beyond that of real life. In order for the characters to stay current with the cultural trends and historical events that have taken place between seasons, the writers may need that extra time in order to keep the timelines of the viewers and the characters relatively consistent.
