American Idol season 23 has been a highly debated season, but with Carrie as the newest judge, it's been pretty obvious what's been the most changed part of the show this year. Even with some backlash about Carrie's performance, it's been clear to see she's not the only problem on the current season of American Idol, but she's been a big issue nonetheless.

Carrie's time on American Idol obviously didn't begin with her journey as a judge. After winning American Idol season 4, Carrie took the world of country music by storm, becoming a megastar in her own right as she learned more about who she wanted to be as an artist. Now, Carrie has been moving more into the faith-based music space, sharing her beliefs through song in new ways. Despite focusing on her faith, Carrie's time as an American Idol judge has been something she's wanted for some time. Unfortunately, it may not be the best fit for the former winner.

Carrie’s Judging Style Can Feel Disconnected

She's Not Giving Clear

Throughout American Idol season 23's run thus far, it's been clear that Carrie is having a tough time. Whether it be in finding her footing during the initial stretch of episodes or struggling to build rapport with her fellow judges, Carrie hasn't been able to slip into the shoes Katy Perry left for her after American Idol season 22 easily. While it was hoped that a former winner like Carrie would be someone that would be able to find her way quickly on the show, it's been tougher than expected. Unfortunately, Carrie's judging style hasn't meshed well with the contestants.

Despite knowing that she has to give , and at some moments critical , to the contestants on American Idol season 23, Carrie's struggled to provide what they need. While she's been able to be open about what she thinks from performance to performance, especially when the performances are of her songs, Carrie's struggled to give she perceives as negative, which is what the show often calls for. Being critical and constructive hasn't been Carrie's strong suit, which has made it feel like she's disconnected from the competition as a whole, especially when it comes to the contestants performances.

Carrie’s Out Of Touch In A Similar Way To Lionel Richie

She's Too Successful To Relate To New Artists

Although American Idol is the show that gave Carrie her start, her appearance on the series was nearly 20 years ago. With so much time having ed and so much life lived in that time, Carrie has seemed fascinatingly out of touch throughout American Idol season 23. While she's able to hang in a bit more than Lionel Richie, who's a music legend in his mid-70s, Carrie isn't entirely able to relate to the contestants or keep up with the industry trends she needs to know about as a judge. Carrie's performance has suffered from her general station in life.

Carrie Can’t Be A Fair Judge From Her Position

She's Not In The Right Space

Although many were excited to see Carrie become part of the Idol family, it's become clear throughout the season that she can't be a good judge from the place she's sitting now. While Carrie has been able to bring in viewers and inspire others with her journey, she hasn't been able to move through her time on Idol smoothly. Some may be hopeful that Carrie will be able to improve over time, but from the place she's in at this point, it doesn't seem like she'll be able to emotionally connect with the American Idol contestants enough to improve overall.
