In a recent social media post, Amber Heard discusses her trial with ex-husband Johnny Depp. Over the past several years, Heard has made headlines for her personal life just as much - if not more - as she has for her career. The actress currently stars in the DCEU as Mera, the female lead of the Aquaman franchise; she will appear alongside Jason Momoa in next year's Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. At the same time, Heard remains frequently embroiled in lawsuits regarding her contentious marriage to Depp. Heard first alleged that Depp had been abusive during their marriage in 2016, leading to a restraining order.

However, Depp has countered that Heard was actually the abusive party and has continued to fight for his innocence in several of the aforementioned lawsuits. Most prominently, Depp sued the UK paper The Sun for defamation after the publication labelled him a "wife-beater." He lost that suit in 2020, and as a result, Warner Bros. asked him to step down from his role in the Fantastic Beasts franchise. Heard then carried on with filming Aquaman 2 last year. Now the two actors are set to begin another trial, wherein Depp is suing Heard for defamation regarding an op-ed she wrote in 2018 describing her experiences as an abuse survivor.

With the trial set to begin this week, Heard posted a statement on social media addressing it. In regards to the op-ed that the trial revolves around, Heard said that "I never named [Depp], rather I wrote about the price women women pay for speaking out against men in power." She stated she continues to pay that price, but that she still holds out hope that once the case is over, "I can move on and so can Johnny." Heard also said that she still holds love for Depp, and thanked fans for their . Her full post can be seen below.

Heard's post has received an outpouring of love from her fanbase, but Depp has just as many ers of his own. There has been much outcry over Warner Bros.' decision to let Depp go from Fantastic Beasts while keeping Heard involved with Aquaman, and there have been petitions to get the actress removed from the DCEU. There has also been continued for Depp's most recent projects, as few as they are; for example, fans boosted the little-seen Minamata into third place for the Oscars' recent fan favorite award.

Regardless of fan opinion online, the trial will take place in Virginia and will likely receive a great deal of publicity. Depp has recruited Kathleen Zellner, one of the attorneys from the Netflix docies Making a Murder to be a part of his legal team, and the trial is expected to see people like James Franco provide testimony. Whether this will result in a win or a loss for Heard remains to be seen, but whatever the result, there will likely be some major reactions online and throughout Hollywood.
