Alan Wake 2's Night Springs DLC is now available, with players stepping into the shoes of Control protagonist Jesse Faden once again in Episode 2: Northstar. In Episode 2, Jesse arrives at the Coffee World amusement park in search of her missing brother, but instead encounters a strange and hostile cult that worships coffee. While this episode isn't particularly long, it features code puzzles that may get players stuck.
Night Springs is the first of two announced DLCs for Alan Wake 2, although Remedy has also released post-launch updates including the excellent New Game Plus mode Final Draft. Night Springs features three episodes, each starring a character from the base game in absurdist "what-if" style adventures. Of the three, Episode 2 is arguably the hardest, as it requires players to have some puzzle-solving skills.

10 Mysteries We Want Solved In Alan Wake 2 DLC
The ending of Alan Wake 2 leaves a lot of questions unanswered, implying that they’ll be addressed in DLC. Here are some mysteries yet to be solved.
How To Get Inside Coffee World (Park Gate Code Puzzle)
At the start of the DLC, Jesse will arrive at the gates of Coffee World and players will immediately be presented with the episode's first puzzle. The electronic entrance gate is locked and requires a code.
The code is 238. To find it in-game, check the ticketing booth to the left of the entrance. Inside, Jesse can find a log book for park issions and her helpful extradimensional entity Polaris will direct her attention to the visitor numbers for Saturday the 15th.
After the gate opens, follow the path left past the Roasting Bar and then turn right immediately to find a staircase that leads up to a well-lit gazebo. There are a few shadow monsters around, but they can safely be ignored for now. Head up to the gazebo to chat with Sheriff Breaker. The Sheriff will explain what he knows and describe a strange warehouse nearby with a security system that he suspects is the cult's headquarters.
Before leaving, arm up with the pistol and the flashlight on the bench nearby.
Unfortunately, the pistol isn't one of the best weapons in Alan Wake 2, but all characters in the DLC are limited to preset weapon and item loadouts. Keep an eye out for additional ammo and flashlight batteries while exploring Coffee World.
How To Find The Cult's Warehouse
The pistol has a rapid-fire mode which is great for dealing with the roaming shadow monsters. Unlike the base game where ammo was much scarcer, the DLC features an abundance of resources. As such, players don't need to be as conservative or careful ing a weapon.
Head back down towards the Roasting Bar, making sure to open the supply box for additional resources. From there, simply head straight until you reach a small clearing with a broken well on the right. Base game players may this location as the starting area for the boss fight against Mulligan and Thornton.
A dark barrier will be blocking the way forward, so use flashlight charges on the glowing nodes to get rid of it. Once the barrier disappears, three shadow monsters will emerge from behind it and attack. Make sure to use the flashlight to remove their darkness shields before killing them with the pistol.
Afterward, head towards the warehouse and interact with the intercom. Unfortunately, Jesse will need to answer some security questions to get inside, starting with the fourth word of Dark Triangle Coffee's mission statement.
How To Find The Fourth Word Of The Cult's Mission Statement
To find the fourth word of the mission statement, return to Sheriff Breaker and ask him about the orientation video. The Sheriff will eventually reveal he hid the videotape on the #4 cup on the ferris wheel and hands over the key to start the ride.
Pick up the key and follow the path directly behind the Sheriff across a wooden bridge toward the ferris wheel. From here, head to the left towards the Tasting Room, sticking to the right side of the path until a small stone staircase appears that leads up to the ferris wheel.
If players look carefully and explore off the beaten path, a few of Alan Wake 2's Cult Stashes can be found. They contain flashlight batteries and pistol ammo.
Start the Slow Roaster by interacting with the control on the right using the Ferris Wheel Control Key. The ride will gradually spin around; simply interact with the again when the #4 cup appears to stop the ride. Approach the cup to claim the orientation video. The objective will update, directing Jesse to the Welcome Center.
To find the Welcome Center, go back down the stairs and towards Sheriff Breaker. A sign along the path will point the way. Instead of heading right across the bridge to the gazebo, continue heading straight to find the Welcome Center. A glowing TV with a video player can be used to play the video and to obtain the word: "truth".
Head back to the warehouse and interact with the intercom. Unfortunately, the intercom will have more security questions, including the optimal roasting temperature for Dark Triangle Coffee beans.
How To Find The Optimal Roasting Temperature For Dark Triangle Coffee Beans
To answer this next security question, follow the path back to the Roasting Bar and go behind the counter. Jesse will identify the roasting machine behind the counter. The three posters on the back wall and the notepad on the counter will reveal a math puzzle:
- The optimal roasting temperature is greater than the sum of our triangle (greater than 180 degrees)
- The first digit of the temperature is half of the second digit.
- The third digit is one less than the second digit.
- The temperature is less than 500 degrees
- The temperature is not 243 degrees.
For players wanting to avoid math, the correct temperature is 487 degrees. Enter the code into the roasting machine to confirm, and return to the warehouse to interact with the intercom. Unfortunately, the cult has one final security requirement: try the coffee.
How To Try The Coffee
To try the coffee, head back into Coffee World and enter the Tasting Room near the Slow Roaster ferris wheel. Jesse can drink the coffee on the table, but luckily Polaris will protect her from its sinister effects.
On exiting the Tasting Room, Jesse will hear the Sheriff fighting some of the shadow monsters in the clearing with the well. After speaking to him, interact with the intercom and give up the pistol to enter the warehouse. However, Jesse isn't alone in the warehouse.
How To Evade The Monsters In The Warehouse
Inside, Jesse will be confronted by a coffee mascot monster. Unlike other boss fights in Alan Wake 2, Jesse is completely unarmed, and being caught by one of the two mascot monsters inside the warehouse results in an instant game over. Players will need to use stealth to get through.
Stay hidden until the mascot heads past Jesse to the left, and then immediately head right. The key to unlock the Warehouse Office is located in a toolbox on a desk against the wall.
Grab the key and head back towards the office door, making sure to stay out of sight. The second mascot patrols the area just ahead, so make sure to choose a moment when both mascots aren't facing the office door.
Inside the office, Jesse encounters Sheriff Breaker who appears to have fallen victim to the coffee cult. Climb down the ladder just behind him to reach the end of Episode 2: Northstar, and this part of Alan Wake 2's Night Springs DLC.
