The final season of Ahsoka and Maul were the sole targets of all the clones on board, most of which were part of the 501st, the battalion Ahsoka had fought alongside throughout her time in the Clone Wars.

While many Jedi did not survive Order 66, Ahsoka Tano could attribute her survival to her lightsaber form, Djem So. This form featured an unconventional reverse grip that probably saved her life as she was able to fight off clones with defensive tricks. Some of these include Soresu, a form of lightsaber defense that allows the wielder to excel at blocking blaster bolts. Throughout The Clone Wars, almost all Jedi blocked blasts, bouncing the bolts off their lightsabers to deflect and kill the droid who shot at them. When Order 66 is called, Ahsoka used this in her initial escape, blocking and deflecting shots coming at her long enough to hide and formulate a plan for escape.

No Other Lightsaber Form Would Have Allowed Ahsoka To Survive Order 66

Ahsoka Tano Lightsabers

Because of Ahsoka’s mastery of Djem So, and the fact that it specialized in defense, meant that Ahsoka was uniquely prepared for an all-out assault like what happened in the final episodes of The Clone Wars. Beyond the form, defense was something Ahsoka was specifically trained in, as in the trailer for Ahsoka is failing, and Anakin is pushing her to go again and get it right. With her dedication to learning the form, it's the only one that would have allowed her to escape.

Could The Clone Troopers Have Countered Ahsoka's Lightsaber Form?

While the clone troopers are experts in war, their biggest advantage in killing Jedi during Order 66 was the element of surprise. Jedi Masters like Plo Koon and Ki-Adi-Mundi were simply overwhelmed by the number of clones trying to kill them, as well as the masters having no idea there was about to be a near extinction of the Jedi Order. Many of the Jedi killed only had one lightsaber and were more ready to fight their way through the clones than they were trying to play defense. The Jedi were supposed to be keepers of the peace, not soldiers, and the style was unfamiliar to them. This is a stark contrast to how Ahsoka fought off the clone army. Because Ahsoka’s lightsaber form was designed with defense in mind it gave her a leg-up over the clones and the other Jedi. Ahsoka wielded two lightsaber blades, making her even more effective in defending herself.

If the trailer for Tales of the Jedi is any indication, audiences may soon be seeing more of Ahsoka, both of her lightsabers, and the clones. Hopefully, audiences will get a better understanding of Ahsoka’s growth as a Jedi and lightsaber wielder, that ultimately led to her surviving Order 66 in The Clone Wars. In any case, it will be great to see her training before the live-action Ahsoka series hits Disney+.
