What This Superman's Debut Means for the Absolute Universe

Can Absolute Superman Bring Hope to a Hopeless World?

He's only officially been on one page, but already fans have seen how different this Clark is from the one they know and love. Not only does he have a costume that appears to be radiating with fiery energy, he's also arrived on the Earth as an adult. It's going to be quite interesting to see how he develops without the love of the Kents to help develop the humanity Superman is known for. But what's really interesting is Darkseid's comment about how hope is the underdog on this world and how the odds are stacked against these Absolute heroes.

Be sure to also see the Absolute Universe explored in Absolute Batman by Scott Snyder and Nick Dragotta and Absolute Wonder Woman by Kelly Thompson and Hayden Sherman, available fall 2024 from DC Comics!

Superman has long been seen as the DC Universe's enduring symbol of hope. But the Absolute Universe is Darkseid's playground and while readers have yet to fully see what this world is like, one can already feel the misery and totalitarianism dominating this world. But Clark always rises to the occasion no matter how difficult a challenge he's presented with. If Darkseid says hope is going to have to burn brighter than ever, then Superman is going to damn well do that.

He's got to fight harder than ever to overcome Darkseid's machinations

Fans haven't yet seen any of Absolute Superman's feats, but they do get a small glimpse of him on this page and it looks like he's a force to be reckoned with. In a world where Superman isn't held back by the morals taught to him by the Kents and he's got to fight harder than ever to overcome Darkseid's machinations, it's not hard to imagine he's going to do some amazing things. It's hard to compete with the genuine article, but this variant has no choice but to be the most powerful Superman of all time.

Comic book art: the Absolute Universe versions of Batman, Wonder Woman, and Superman glare menacingly.

The effects of Darkseid creating the Absolute Universe have only begun to be explored, but DC's heroes cannot afford to let him have this much power. Darkseid's biggest obstacle is always Superman and hopefully, the variant on Darkseid's world is hiding power the Apokoliptian ruler can only imagine. While fans wait to see what he's made of, there's a good chance that Absolute Superman is already the strongest variant that's ever been seen.
