It won't be long until fans properly meet the Absolute Universe incarnation of the The Flash, but a sneak peek is showing off DC's new Wally West and his odd sidekick. This new version of the Scarlet Speedster won't have the same connections as the Prime Flash, but he's got someone to monkey around with.

While Absolute Flash #1 is still a few weeks away, DC Comics is getting fans hyped up with a new behind-the-scenes look in its latest DC Nation spotlight that was included in books released on March 5th. The spotlight dives into the Absolute Flash's background and also showcases concept art by Absolute Flash artist Nick Robles.

The art shows off the Absolute Flash's new costume as well as Wally's overall design. Interestingly enough, it also shows a green monkey with an exposed brain hanging around with the Flash, with notes contemplating what its final design should actually look like.

Absolute Flash Has a New Partner: A Mysterious Green Monkey

What Kind of Monkey Business is About to Happen in the Absolute Universe?

Absolute Flash #3 variant cover

The Absolute Universe was created after Darkseid's physical body was destroyed, and his energy broke through the multiversal barrier and settled on a younger, more impressionable alternate Earth. Darkseid's energy corrupted this world, altering the course of history for DC's greatest heroes. In this world, turmoil and strife were the dominating forces and hope was the underdog. Familiar heroes have emerged, such as Batman and Wonder Woman, but they lack the things that made their Prime counterparts' lives easier, such as their families or wealth. And yet, the heroes have still risen and started to fight back against their world.

While fans have yet to properly meet Absolute Flash, it's known that there's not a Speed Force in the Absolute Universe. He also won't have the legacies that the other Wally West had to guide and shape him. While one might think that would leave him alone in this world, it looks like the Absolute Wally has some kind of companion around. The real question is what's going on with this monkey? Is it a science experiment, possibly related to how Flash gets his powers? Or is this the Absolute Universe’s take on another hero, say Flash's ally Beast Boy?

Wally and His New Pal Are Bringing Levity to a World That Needs It

Absolute Flash #1 Cover Variant by Dan Panosian-1

While there's nothing to go off of based on this concept art, it's nice to see Absolute Flash have something in this world. The Absolute Universe is harsher than the Prime DC Universe and this Wally is much younger than his counterpart. He'll need someone who can lift his spirits and keep him going as the pressures of this intense world start to mount. And let's be real, what's more fun or comic book-y than an animal sidekick? Whoever this new friend is, they're sure to make Absolute Flash more fun than a barrel of monkeys.

Absolute Flash #1 is available on March 19th from DC Comics.
