The decision to adapt A Court of Thorns & Roses for the screen came almost a decade ago, first being reported in 2015. The feature-length ACOTAR film series never got off the ground however, with the last news on the project coming in 2018 when Rachel Hirons had been on-boarded as a screenwriter.
The failure to bring A Court of Thorns & Roses to the big screen didn't mark the end of attempts to adapt it, however. The project simply evolved, and is now instead being fashioned into a TV series for Hulu by 20th Television (the small-screen arm of Disney's Fox-acquired studio 20th Century, formerly 20th Century Fox).
