Throughout the end of 9-1-1 season 8, episode 10.
New episodes of 9-1-1 season 8 air on Thursdays at 8 pm ET on ABC.
So, Maddie survives (with a gnarly scar on her throat, unfortunately), just like other characters who have suffered terrible injuries. However, some haven't been so lucky. Many succumb to their deadly wounds while the firefighters and paramedics of Station 118 treat them. It's all based on the severity of their injuries (of course). Numerous emergencies in the procedural drama series have been quite extreme, often resulting in 9-1-1 viewers having to look away from their TV screens because the scenes are just too grotesque.
10 Chimney Getting Skewered By A Pole Through His Forehead
9-1-1 Season 1, Episode 3
9-1-1 has never shied away from putting its main characters in great danger, starting early in the series with Chimney's accident in season 1, episode 3, "Next of Kin." When Chimney gets into a fight with Bobby, he goes for a drive to settle down. Unfortunately, his car crashes into a barrier on the road, resulting in a truck carrying steel poles rear-ending him. In the chaos, one of the rods punctures Chimney from behind. It's wedged in his seat's headrest and into his skull, coming out of the firefighter's forehead.

Despite All The Teases, I'm Not Holding My Breath For Buck & Eddie's Romance In 9-1-1 Happening Anytime Soon
9-1-1 fans have been waiting for Buck and Eddie to get together, and although season 8 features some hope for the couple, it likely won’t happen soon.
Chimney ultimately survives the accident. However, this is the first terrifying incident in the procedural drama (at least, when it comes to the main characters). It's horrifying to see the rebar sticking out of Chimney's forehead while he's awake and hauntingly calm. Perhaps some were sure Maddie was going to die in 9-1-1 season 8, episode 10, but it's truly a miracle that Chimney survived the car crash in season 1.
9 A Motorcycle Accident Tears A Man In Half
9-1-1 Season 1, Episode 10
In the 9-1-1 season 1 finale, "A Whole New You," a man named Kenny shops for a motorcycle for his 50th birthday. Promising his son that he would drive it home, Kenny is on the motorcycle when he collides with a pickup truck. The accident results in him literally being torn in half.
The only reason why Kenny initially survives and is awake when the emergency services arrive is because of his helmet, according to 9-1-1's Bobby Nash. Nevertheless, Kenny cannot be saved. So, Bobby lets Kenny use his phone to call his son to say goodbye, and the entire scene is utterly upsetting, both concerning its grotesque nature and the heartbreak caused by the man's death.
8 A Man Burns In A Tanning Bed
9-1-1 Season 1, Episode 8
Season 1 of 9-1-1 is full of disturbing injuries, one of the most horrifying being the man who gets burned while in a tanning bed in episode 8, "Karma's a Bitch." The owner of a fitness club, Barry, is stuck in a tanning bed for hours before the first responders arrive. Barry likely took some steroids that left him paralyzed, unable to escape. He is barely alive when they get to him, and when Hen attempts R, some of Barry's flesh sticks to her gloves. The gym owner ultimately dies, which wasn't too surprising, given his badly burned state.
7 Eddie Almost Killing A Man During Fight Club
9-1-1 Season 3, Episode 8
Ryan Guzman's Eddie Diaz gets involved in an underground fight club in 9-1-1 season 3, which is frustrating enough, but when he almost kills a man, the situation turns very serious very quickly. Eddie punches his opponent a few times and notices that the man isn't doing well. The owner of the fight club refuses to call 9-1-1 because what they're doing is quite illegal. So, Eddie tries to save the man himself.
No one could have expected that would be the issue, and when Eddie reveals the chunk of the nose, it's difficult not to gag a little as an audience member.
Eddie sticks his fingers down his opponent's throat to see what's blocking his airway. He then finds and pulls out a piece of the man's nose that slipped into his throat during the fight, causing his breathing problems in the 9-1-1 episode. No one could have expected that would be the issue, and when Eddie reveals the chunk of the nose, it's difficult not to gag a little as an audience member.
6 A Man Gets Stuck In An Escalator
9-1-1 Season 2, Episode 4
Another heartbreaking (and gruesome) accident happens in 9-1-1 season 2, episode 4, "Stuck." A man named Daniel proposes to his girlfriend, Ariel, at the mall, but he does so while kneeling on an escalator. When Daniel gets to the top, the escalator collapses, pulling him down with it. He gets stuck, and although the 9-1-1 characters attempt to save him, by the time they free Daniel, he has lost too much blood. Daniel dies, and Ariel, in her grief, sobs over his bleeding body.
5 Eddie Gets Shot By A Sniper
9-1-1 Season 4, Episode 13
Many 9-1-1 characters have had horrible near-death experiences, but the worst was probably Eddie in season 4, episode 13, "Suspicion." Towards the hour's end, Eddie and Buck are standing on the street when a sniper shoots Eddie through his right shoulder. His blood splatters on Buck's face before he falls. Buck, in shock, has to be tackled to avoid also getting shot, and the episode concludes with him staring at his best friend (who has a far-off look in his eyes) lying in a large pool of his own blood. Eddie survives, but this moment is undoubtedly one of the most horrifying and memorable scenes in 9-1-1.
4 A Woman's Face Falls Off When Her Plastic Surgery Is Interrupted
9-1-1 Season 2, Episode 11
A gas leak at a medical facility causes doctors to out mid-surgery in 9-1-1 season 2, episode 11, "New Beginnings." Meanwhile, their patient, who was getting plastic surgery on her face, wakes up in a state of confusion. She is still under some general anesthesia, though, numbing the pain. When Station 118 arrives, they automatically notice that the woman's operation hasn't been completed. So, when she tries to sit up, half of her face folds over, and it looks all too real not to be one of the procedural drama's most gruesome emergency calls.
3 A Man's Intestines Fall Out After He Sneezes Too Hard
9-1-1 Season 8, Episode 6
9-1-1 season 8, episode 6, "Confessions," gives fans one more seemingly harmless thing to be afraid of — sneezing. During the episode, a married couple meets to discuss their divorce with their lawyers. Fighting ensues, and when the man starts relentlessly sneezing, one sneeze results in his intestines falling out of his gut.

The man previously had his appendix taken out. His strenuous sneezing fit led to the wound reopening and his intestines falling out of his body. It's truly nauseating to watch, even though the first responders in 9-1-1 save the day and his guts.
2 An Antenna Skewers 2 People Together During The Tsunami
9-1-1 Season 3, Episode 2
The tsunami during the season 3 three-part premiere is among 9-1-1's most intense disasters, primarily because of all the injuries and chaos it causes. In episode 2, "Sink or Swim," the firefighters and paramedics of Station 118 find two people (a father and a son) badly injured on a boat. An antenna skewered both of them together, which has happened on other medical dramas, but it will never get easier to watch.

Why 9-1-1's Henrietta Was Not At Fault For The Death She Caused (Even Though It Haunts Me To This Day)
Hen is one of the most dedicated emergency responders in 9-1-1, and there's one specific death she couldn't prevent that still shocks fans.
The smart 9-1-1 characters are able to separate the two men. However, while they easily get the son (who was on top of the older man) out of the boat, his father is stuck because the antenna pierces him into the floor. So, Bobby goes under the water to cut him free, just when the water starts rising. He ultimately saves the man, but the entire situation is nonetheless terrifying.
1 The Ice Skating Rink Incident
9-1-1 Season 3, Episode 8
Perhaps one of 9-1-1's most over-the-top emergencies comes at the beginning of season 3, episode 8, "Malfunction." During an ice show, a skater falls, and someone else on skates goes by, accidentally slicing off the tips of his fingers. Then, another skater loses her balance, causing her legs to kick up, planting her skate into the chest of her partner. Skates are quite sharp, after all. However, watching as one gets planted into a person's chest is something that 9-1-1 fans can't unsee (or forget).

9-1-1 is a television series that explores the intense experiences of police officers, paramedics, and firefighters. Premiered in 2018, it follows these emergency responders as they navigate high-pressure situations and attempt to balance their demanding work with personal challenges in their own lives.
