Everyone needed a laugh in 2020, but it wasn't coming from the movies - here are all the comedies that should've been out by now. 2020 has been a year to forget, with the COVID-19 pandemic dominating lives since March and continuing to cause problems across the globe as December draws to a close. Show business traditionally operates by the time-honored tradition of "the show must go on" but 2020 saw numerous delays in production for TV and film, pushing back schedules across the entire year. Meanwhile, the closure of movie theaters left completed projects without any means of distribution.

The few movies that did release in 2020 were forced to do so via streaming, on-demand, or during the small windows where theaters were actually open. The vast majority, however, were No Time To Die.

There are also a raft of comedies that should've released in 2020, but are now planned for the new year and beyond. With a bit of luck and an effective vaccination program, movie fans will soon be able to enjoy the following list of funnies without the cloud of doom that hung over most of 2020. These are all the comedies we missed out on.

Bob's Burgers: The Movie

Beloved animated comedy Bob's Burgers has been running for 11 seasons, and will continue through to at least season 13 on Fox. The big screen debut of the Belcher family and their famous burger t was first announced in 2017, and initially planned to release in July 2020 before coronavirus threw a gherkin into the bun. Recording on Disney+, although that remains to be seen.

Clifford The Big Red Dog

Clifford The Big Red Dog was created by Norman Bridwell and debuted in book form in 1963. The over-sized canine has since found himself starring in a variety of TV animations and video games, but was set to make a big screen splash in 2020. Utilizing live-action and CGI elements, Clifford The Big Red Dog stars David Alan Grier as the voice of the titular dog, in addition to Darby Camp, Jack Whitehall and John Cleese. Originally expected in November 2020, the pandemic left a steaming hot dropping on Clifford's movie career, delaying the film until November 5th 2021.

The Comeback Trail

Robert De Niro Comeback Trail Release Date Delayed To 2021

With an all-star cast featuring The Comeback Trail was set to be a late treat in November 2020. Remaking the 1982 film of the same name, with Jones taking Buster Crabbe's role as Duke Montana, The Comeback Trail sees two producers attempt to make a western film, hoping their lead actor will die to pull off an insurance scam. Facing production issues of its own, The Comeback Trail has been delayed until October 29th 2021.

Coming 2 America

Eddie Murphy's Coming 2 America, Prince Akeem meets Lavelle, the son he never knew he had, and attempts to mold the Queens youngster into a future prince. Coming 2 America will now release via Amazon Prime on March 5th 2021, having originally been slated for December.

Connected

Connected Mitchell Family

Directed, written by and starring Mike Rianda, Connected is an animated comedy from Sony. Katie Mitchell has been accepted into film school, and is travelling to campus alongside her outlandish family when the world's gadgets suddenly decide to stage a Terminator-style revolution upon mankind. Other cast include Danny McBride, Olivia Colman and Maya Rudolph. Connected has been unplugged from Sony's slate completely after initially being pushed from September to October 2020.

Dream Horse

A true British story of race horse breeding, Dream Horse is based on the Dream Alliance - a community who banded together to raise a racehorse called Dream into a winning contender within the thrilling world of Welsh horse racing. Starring an impressive selection of acting talent, Dream Horse features Toni Collette, Damian Lewis, Joanna Page and Peter Davison, and is directed by Euros Lyn (SherlockDream Horse would've released in April/May 2020, but is yet to get out of the gate, delayed indefinitely.

Free Guy

Another comedy blockbuster denied by a glitchy 2020, Ryan Reynolds as a video game NPC who gets wise to his surroundings and embarks on a mission to save his people. With Jodie Comer, Joe Keery and Taika Waititi, Free Guy takes Reynolds' protagonist from anonymous nobody to the hero of his digital world... but not until next year. Free Guy moved from July to December in response to the pandemic, but will now premiere May 21st 2021.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife

After the divisive Ghostbuster grandparents. Understandably, Ghostbusters: Afterlife was one of 2020's hottest releases, until coronavirus crossed the streams and the July 2020 release date was scrapped. Following several push-backs, Ghostbusters: Afterlife will now arrive on June 11th 2021.
