A new leak suggests that Pokémon nearly destroyed the Galar region.
Eternatus plays a unique role in the lore of Pokémon, being directly responsible for the Dynamaxing phenomenon - the Generation 8 games' signature mechanic. Eternatus constantly radiates Dynamax energy, which causes Pokémon to grow to enormous sizes. In Galar's distant past, this ultimately led to the 'Darkest Day', a catastrophe where Dynamaxed Pokémon rampaged across the region. With Eternatus ultimately defeated by Galar's heroic wolf-like Legendaries Zacian and Zamazenta, broken-off pieces of the Gigantic Pokemon's body became known as Wishing Stars. These valuable items are a key resource in Galar; In addition to being used as fuel in the region's power plants, Wishing Stars can be made into Dynamax Bands, allowing trainers to invoke both the Dynamax effect and its sub-variant Gigantamaxing in Pokémon battles.
Now fans of the Poison/Dragon-Type will apparently soon have a chance to acquire a Shiny Eternatus, a unique specimen impossible to find in regular play. According to fansite Pokémon being added after launch as DLC, including Darkrai and even Arceus itself.
Pokémon's Rumored Shiny Eternatus Accompanies Ongoing Distribution Campaign
Of course, this Eternatus is not the only exclusive Pokémon to be distributed at the moment. A series of Mystery Gift Pokémon - based on the team of the anime's Ash Ketchum - are in the midst of having their codes distributed to fans around the world, with the latest being his Gengar. This event commemorates Ash as he battles his way through the World Coronation Series, a tournament featuring the very best Pokémon trainers from around the world. These Level 80 powerhouses are a boon to any fan's collection, which has left many eagerly awaiting each code as it is released. Much like Eternatus is reported to be, Ash's Pokémon team is being offered for free to everyone who owns Pokémon Sword & Shield.
Although the news has yet to be officially confirmed, this leak does seem credible. Pokémon fans will no doubt be excited by this, especially as Shiny Eternatus cannot be acquired in-game without hacking. The Legendary being shiny locked may be in order to prevent continuity issues with Sword & Shield's cutscenes, which is by itself an understandable concern. But on the other hand, this decision has also left a hole in dedicated fans' shiny dexes. Until now, that is. With the distribution reported to begin in just a few weeks' time, it should not be long until an official announcement is made. This will give fans all the details they need to obtain this exclusive Pokémon ahead of Pokémon Scarlet & Violet's release.
