It's official - the X-Men's an Avenger and an X-Man teamed up.
The second issue featured an entertaining team-up in which Iron Man attempted to recruit Kitty Pryde. Tony Stark had been watching Kitty from afar for quite a while, impressed with her intelligence and computer skills. "We both know you're a genius," he told a bemused Kitty. "And we both know that you've routinely hacked into the Avengers database whenever you've needed info." He wasn't wrong; in fact, Kitty has also successfully hacked SHIELD, the United Nations, and the US Government on occasion as well.
Of course, this was a superhero team-up, so it didn't take long for supervillains to emerge on the scene. In this case, not long before Kitty Pryde had been infected by microscopic the microscopic alien Brood, and they took the opportunity to emerge in an attempt to acquire Stark technology. Worse still, because the Brood absorb the powers of any host, they all possessed Kitty's phasing power. Fortunately, Kitty goaded them into making a single tactical error; she tricked them into donning spare Iron Man armors.
It was a smart trick, because Kitty then phased through the armor at speed. Although the Brood didn't know it, whenever Kitty phases through an electrical system it generates a short-circuit. The experience is painful for anyone in close proximity - and in this case, it was agonizing enough to knock out all the Brood warriors wearing the different suits of armor. Iron Man was astounded with the ease with which she'd dealt with the threat - but he immediately realized he wanted to keep Kitty Pryde as far away as possible.
"So for me, having you here would be like Superman having a piece of Kryptonite around," he observed in shock. Suddenly Tony Stark was having to deal with the fact this woman could take him out just as easily as she'd beaten a group of four alien warriors in stolen Iron Man armor. Of course, given this is Tony Stark, it's reasonable to assume he tried to figure out a defensive system in the next iteration of his armor - because there's no way he would be willing to live with that kind of vulnerability.
