With a brilliantly grotesque atmosphere that carefully weaves machine in with flesh, Scorn leaves its players almost entirely to their own devices in dealing with its final boss. As a result, most mechanics in the game are left unexplained, forcing players to immerse themselves in the disturbing environment and use their instincts to solve puzzles and move forward.
Due to limited weapons, scarce ammo, and a combat style that leans more toward survivalist than action-packed, finding an effective fighting pattern to beat each of the game's bosses can prove quite tricky. Walking the line between dealing damage and conserving resources may require delicate planning, and often is the difference between being the defeater or the defeated in an encounter with an enemy. Scorn's final boss utilizes those limited weapon options and ammo to add an extra layer of difficulty and necessary planning to the fight.
The final boss of the game, Krang, lies at the end of Act 5 in a room decorated with two embryos, two cages, an automaton, and consoles for healing and ammo. The two eggs must be taken one by one to the husk, shot twice, and brought back to the console. Doing this with the second egg will trigger the boss battle. While the automaton has different attack patterns depending on the player's distance from it, they can be relatively easy to dodge due to their predictability and the layout of the boss room. Krang will fire rounds of grenades from a distance, which can be avoided by continuously moving around the map and using the cages as cover where necessary. When the player is closer, Scorn's grisly, Gigeresque boss will switch to a melee swipe; however, being quite slow, it can be dodged by moving backward.
Keeping Distance to Defeat the Final Boss in Scorn
The key tactic for defeating this boss is to keep outside his melee range, avoid incoming projectiles as much as possible, and wait for it to run out of ammo. When this happens, Krang will crouch down to reload, and two glowing sacks of blood will be revealed on its sides. The player must fire once at one of the sacks, blow it up, and back away to repeat the process. Once these sacks have been destroyed twice, the player can attempt to retrieve the husk's weapon, at which point the fight will move into the second phase.
During the second phase, the player must trigger this horrific boss' one of two melee attacks. Unfortunately, damage can only be dealt if the hatch on its stomach holding a fetus is visible, so some melee attacks will need to be dodged at the last moment. After shooting the fetus three times, the player will be able to take the grenade launcher showcased in Scorn's gameplay trailer from the boss, take the second fetus to be crushed, and begin phase three.
Only the grenade launcher can be used during the third and final stage of the boss fight. The last fetus is located behind the grated wall and must be retrieved by standing on a pressure plate on the right side of the room, waiting for a on the wall to open, and firing a grenade into it. Once the fetus is retrieved and loaded into the husk, it will reanimate in perfect survival horror fashion, and the previous tactics can be used. As in the first two stages, the boss will kneel to reload once out of ammunition, revealing a canister on its back, which only needs to be shot once to defeat the husk for the final time. After picking up the final fetus and crushing it, the player will have defeated Scorn's final boss.
