As revealed in the Xbox Developer Direct 2025 presentation, the Ninja Gaidenseries is getting a surprise sequel in the form of Ninja Gaiden 4, over a decade since the initial release of the last game in the series. Developed by Team Ninja in collaboration with Platinum Games, Ninja Gaiden 4 is the first mainline sequel in the series since the release of Ninja Gaiden 3 in 2012, and its reveal at the Developer Direct comes shortly after the reveal of the side-scrolling spinoff Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound at the 2024 Game Awards.

Koei and Team Ninja have officially declared 2025 the "Year of the Ninja," bringing back the series in just about every conceivable way, including the reveal of Ninja Gaiden 4, which it's currently developing for a 2025 release with the help of Platinum Games.

The way the camera pans down or how fast the character moves all point to a game trying to evolve a gripping combat formula that reaches all the way back to the NES.
