Extraction is based on a limited-time event in Rainbow Six Siege titled Operation Chimera. Inspired by that event, Extraction utilized the gameplay mechanics and features from Siege. However, this does not make Extraction just a cut and paste of Siege as the game changes the features and gameplay mechanics to fit its setting.

The direction of the Tom Clancy brand has taken a bizarre turn under Ubisoft over the last several years, with titles like Rainbow Six Extraction seeming to mark an end to what made the games good in the first place. In the past, the Tom Clancy brand focused more on near-future-set tactical shooters while delivering a suspenseful narrative. Like Clancy's books, the games also acted as social commentary on the post-Cold War era, depicting geopolitical tension and armed conflict in titles like Splinter Cell, Rainbow Six, and Ghost Recon. Moreover, the gameplay mixed up and improved upon the general mechanics of shooters, both third and first-person, delivering a tactical focus that has been sorely lacking over the last decade.

Ubisoft shooter Ghost Recon Breakpoint will be free to play this weekend on consoles and PC as part of the publisher’s 35th anniversary celebrations. 2019's Ghost Recon Breakpoint received mixed reviews at launch. In spite of that, Ubisoft has continually released updates and DLC for the game. Most recently, to celebrate the Ghost Recon series’ own 20th anniversary, a Ghost Recon Breakpoint Tomb Raider crossover dubbed “Relics of the Ancients” was announced, and it's scheduled to release sometime before the end of 2021.

After eight long years in hibernation, the Splinter Cell franchise may finally be stepping out from the shadows. According to a report from VGC, Ubisoft has greenlit a new Splinter Cell game for early production, potentially bringing the classic stealth series back into the limelight with what could b e the first real Splinter Cell game since 2013's Blacklist.

In the two years since 2019's Ghost Recon Breakpoint, Ubisoft has mostly gone quiet on the Ghost Recon series as a whole until fairly recently. That in itself doesn't necessarily mean much - sequels to AAA games can sometimes take a year or more's work to have anything presentable, much less ship. Now the new Ghost Recon game - Ghost Recon Frontline - has been announced, but a specific release date is still unclear.
