Nomada Studio’s sophomore release returns to the same hand-animated and wordless 2D-platformer territory which saw its debut Gris become a mega-hit with critics and fans alike, yet it never seems like a safe retread. Anchoring an eco-themed fairy tale with simple but satisfying combat, movement, and puzzling, publisher Devolver Digital’s latest is an easy recommendation, a crowd-pleasing platformer several shades simpler than Gris, but no less elegant or engrossing. The famous maxim of "one shot, one kill" gets an upgrade in new puzzle/shooter hybrid Children of the Sun. Published by Devolver Digital and developed primarily by Berlin-based creator René Rother, Children of the Sun's lo-fi greasy visual style frames a macabre story of revenge, as its mute masked protagonist murders their way up the ranks of a twisted smalltown cult. This telekinetic sniper – dubbed "The Girl" – is able to control each fired bullet from kill to kill, allowing for extended streaks that zigzag across gritty dioramas in a medley of blood.

Fortuna lost it all: her tarot deck, magic, mastery over fate, and freedom. Exiled to drift aimlessly through outer space in a curiously cozy floating prison, visual novel adventure The Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood has players guide the aggrieved witch through her eventual return to the practice of magic, with all the resultant delight and/or destruction such a path may wreak. For veteran indie studio Deconstructeam, The Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood presents another engrossing exploration of choice and consequence, with narratively impactful tools that give new meaning to the term "deckbuilder."

Some video games are just prime Devolver Digital material at first blush. Such is the case with the publisher’s newest outing Gunbrella, courtesy of studio Doinksoft, best known for their earlier Devolver titles Gato Roboto and the physical-cartridge-only Nintendo Switch game, Demon Throttle. It’s a curious studio whose previous work evinces its love for retro-themed action, and Gunbrella is looking like the most altogether cohesive release yet to manifest from this partnership.

KarmaZoo is a new multiplayer game that focuses on cooperation and collaboration over competition, where groups of players will work together to traverse increasingly difficult levels. The release comes from developer Pastagames, which in the past has worked on other titles like PAC-MAN Party Royale and Rayman Legends, and Devolver Digital, the indie-specialist publisher with recent games like Cult of the Lamb, Return to Monkey Island, and Trek to Yomi. Mixel is back for the second time in Mixel 3, the enigmatically named sequel to round out this truly absurd duology. Massive Monster's Cult of the Lamb adds an occult twist to the rogue-like genre, including tarot cards that grant the player buffs. During their crusades, players collect tarot cards, often from Cult of the Lamb's fortune-teller character, Clauneck. Each card only lasts for the duration of the run and is lost when players return to their cult, either voluntarily or upon death. Thanks to The One Who Waits, death in Cult of the Lamb is a minor setback, with the player only losing a small percentage of their inventory before being resurrected once more.

Devolver Digital's newest addition to the Monkey Island franchise, Return to Monkey Island, has some fans reacting negatively toward the game's art direction. This new art style stands in stark contrast to the different depictions seen in the original games. This has caused a divide among some fans wanting a return to the nostalgic pixel art of the old series, with others remaining ambivalent.
