David Cronenberg’s new film The Shroudshas scored its release date. An auteur of the body horror genre, Cronenberg is best known for his work on films such as The Fly,Dead Ringers, and The Dead Zone. The Shrouds follows the story of a widower and businessman named Karsh who builds a new device that can connect people with the dead inside a burial shroud.

Cronenberg is known for exploring these themes in Shivers (1975), Scanners (1981), Videodrome (1983), and The Fly (1986). Many of these films have polarized critics and audiences alike and have also sparked controversy for their visceral depictions of gore and violence.

David Cronenberg arrived in 1969 with his debut movie, the science fiction release Stereo. By 1975, he was one of the biggest names in the horror genre. While he hasn't made a true horror movie since the 1990s, his filmography consists of some of the most respected and critically acclaimed horror movies in history.

Director David Cronenberg, the master of the body horror sub-genre, is set to make a new movie in that style, but we're not sure what it is yet.
