Captain Rex’s armor is unlike any other clone trooper’s in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and showrunner Dave Filoni gave it an interesting explanation. In Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones, clone troopers are introduced with Phase 1 armor, which resembles both their sinister successors – Imperial stormtroopers – and the Mandalorian armor of their genetic template – Jango Fett. Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith shows clone troopers in Phase 2 armor, which more closely resembles stormtrooper armor than Mandalorian armor. 297252

Star Warshas set up a possible return for fan-favorite clone trooper Captain Rex in the Mandalorian era, which could see him reunite with Jedi Ahsoka Tano. Rex and Ahsoka really are one of Star Wars' best duos. After fighting side-by-side during Star Wars: The Clone Wars, they reunited in Star Wars Rebels. Ahsoka has since returned to the Star Wars timeline in The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and Ahsoka, but Rex hasn't. Audiences are eager to see Rex and Ahsoka connect once more, and Star Wars just dropped a major hint that reunion may be coming.

New Captain Rex art, officially released by Star Wars, all but confirms that one of the most popular fan theories from Return of the Jedican now be considered a true retcon. As the honorable, loyal, and strong right-hand man of Anakin Skywalker and Ahsoka Tano during the Clone Wars, Rex has become not only a fan-favorite Star Wars character, but also one of Star Wars' very best characters. His appearance later on in life mirrors that of the character Nik Sant, who appears at the Battle of Endor - causing many to hope this character could be retconned as Rex.

Captain Rexplayed an instrumental part in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, but his story doesn't end there. Clone troopers like Rex were initially intended to be the perfect expendable soldiers, growing at accelerated rates and devoting their short lives to defending the Republic against the Separatists. Most of their Jedi generals, however, quickly came to regard the clones as valuable of their unit. Because of this, the clones became important characters in Star Wars. As a recurring character working closely wih Anakin and Obi-Wan, Rex was instrumental in establishing the clones’ importance as characters.

A significant number of animated Star Wars characters have recently made the jump to live-action. However, there are plenty more galactic heroes and villains I would love to see so the same. Because the established Star Wars canon spans multiple mediums and formats, it's hopefully only a matter of time.

Star Wars: The Bad Batch season 3 trailer showed Captain Rex returning to the Star Wars universe yet again, and it's because the franchise is about to tell his most tragic story yet. Ever since his first debut in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Rex has faced almost nothing but tragedy. As he attempts to lead his brothers in battle, he must inevitably watch more clones die seemingly meaningless deaths for the sake of the Republic. Despite existing to serve, Rex irably grits his teeth and gets the job done, believing that things will be better when the Clone Wars ends.

Lucasfilm's Chief Creative Officer Dave Filoni shared why he has yet to confirm if Captain Rex made an appearance in Star Wars: Episode VI -Return of the Jedi. First introduced in The Clone Wars film, Captain Rex was a clone trooper in the 501st Battalion, serving under Anakin Skywalker. He quickly became a fan-favorite in The Clone Wars series and has since appeared in Rebels, Ahsoka, and The Bad Batch. Because Captain Rex was such a prominent figure throughout the Clone Wars and the Imperial Era, it makes sense that fans would be looking for him in the originaltrilogy, but Star Warshas intentionally left that question unanswered.
