First look photos of the new thriller miniseries The Girl Before features Loki and Selma stars. The 4-part show was created by J.P. Delaney and adapts his 2016 novel of the same name, with Lisa Brühlmann (Killing Eve) set to direct. Though a release date has yet to be announced, The Girl Before will stream on HBO Max in the US and air on BBC in the UK.

The remarkable life story of Rep. John Lewis and his part in the civil rights movement continues in Run: Book One, the follow-up to the late congressman’s award-winning graphic novel trilogy March. Run: Book One picks up where the previous volume left off, detailing what happened after the g of the Voting Rights Act of 1965. It chronicles the continued struggles of Lewis and other civil rights activists to overturn segregationist policies and voters while also confronting the war in Vietnam and infighting among allies. At times both heartbreaking and inspiring, Run is a startlingly relevant work of art that shines a light on elements of the civil rights movement that do not receive much attention, and shows how the struggle continues even to this day.

On a sunny May afternoon, Derek Chauvin, a white Minneapolis police officer, took the life of an African-American man named George Floyd. Chauvin knelt on Floyd's neck for 8 minutes and 46 seconds while Floyd was handcuffed on the ground, begging for his life and protesting that he couldn't breathe. Chauvin was assisted by three officers who prevented bystanders from interfering. This tragedy, a stark and grim reminder of many similar instances of African Americans suffering aggressions, big and small, from police throughout the United States has catalyzed the Black Lives Matter Movement and sparked global protests that are still going on as of this writing.

Selma, directed by Ava DuVernay, did not receive Oscar  due to the cast and crew's protests for Black Lives Matter (BLM) in 2015. Paramount initially hired Lee Daniels to direct the film; however, he ultimately chose to take on The Butler instead, leading the studio to elect rising newcomer DuVernay as director. Selma is a historical drama covering the Selma to Montgomery voting rights marches in 1965 that was organized by Civil Rights activist leader James Bevel. David Oyelowo stars as Martin Luther King Jr. and other notable cast names include rapper Common as Bevel and Oprah Winfrey as Annie Lee Cooper. The film currently holds a 99% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and has several favorable reviews applauding Ava DuVernay's writing, directing, and vision along with Oyelowo's incredible, spirited performance.

Paramount Pictures is offering free digital rentals of Ava DuVernay's Selma through the end of June. This announcement came less than 24 hours after David Oyelowo, who portrays Martin Luther King Jr. in the film, said Selma's 2015 Oscar snub was a response to the protest of the killing of Eric Garner by an NYPD officer. Selma, directed by DuVernay and written by Paul Webb, is a 2014 film chronicling the 1965 voting rights marches from Selma to Montgomery. Selma stars Oyelowo, Tom Wilkinson, Tim Roth, Carmen Ejogo, and Common.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association hip consists of only 90 or so Southern California-based international journalists yet its annual Golden Globe Awards regularly rival the extravagance of the Oscars, which are run by a much larger 17-branch, nearly 8000 strong voting hip of The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Sure, Globe and Oscar differ in density, but their annual awards nominations often closely parallel each other with the Globe nominations rolling out the red carpet for the Hollywood talent that'll end up raking in the same well-deserved nominations at the Oscars.
